so you say you’re the fatcat of a technology company and you need to trim the fat? let’s go through the checklist:

- you’ve laid off all the right people (actually you probably laid off the wrong people but…)

- you’ve asked the remaining staff to take pay cuts ‘for a short while’ and take on more responsibility.

- you’ve cancelled the maintenance contracts for all your software licenses. ‘what could happen?’.

- you’ve cancelled the daily bagel and krispy kreme order. oh yeah, everybody pays for soda now.

- since there’s less activity you put your accounting and systems people on call or part-time.

- ‘what benefits?’

ok, so far… so good. but you forgot the most important thing, the hardware. here’s one solution: ‘The Silicon Graphics Refrigerator Project’
