taxi jackin

the next time you’re in a taxi, think twice before you try to ditch the fare or jack the driver. you’re cab may be equipped with  taxicam.

the camera mounted above the rear-view mirror is wired into a hard drive inside the trunk (cache can hold 320 frames). illumination is provided by infra-red projectors mounted on the left and right pillars so the camera can shoot in total darkness. the system by raywood communications has reduced robbery and violent incident by 60%. one of the largest taxi companies in the u.s. bought the system and it has made a difference.

things that trigger the camera

- door opens or closes: 10 frames are taken (1 per second)

- taxi meter switched on or off: 10 frames are taken (1 per second)

- the alarm will trigger 1 picture per second until capacity is reached, then: memory will be ‘frozen’

- there is a manual trigger the driver can push to take individual or a sequence of frames. according to my driver, it comes in handy for ‘camera friendly’ women after last call.

i’m sure soon enough there will be sites like flashmountain.com that have these pictures for all to see. maybe ‘backseatshenanigans.com’ or even  ‘jacked.com’.
