Waking Life, the new animated movie from richard linklater has a new trailer. if you’re not familiar with the movie or the concept, it’s a live action movie that is then rotoscoped using the ‘fluid line’ technique developed in the tommy pallotta and bob sabiston short film “road head”. don’t remember it? you may have seen pieces of it during mtv breaks and you’d recognize them as interviews of people drawn over with a constant flowing black line against white. a more recent reference are the orange and black commercials that interview people use the same style.

fyi, tommy sabiston worked at the M.I.T. media lab for years and contributed to a memorable cg film entitled ‘grinning evil death’ that was shown on mtv’s liquid television all the time. a little background info can be found here.
