too bad the car is hella ug-ug

while i was in singapore last month, i was at the cinema and a commercial for the toyota matrix was shown before the movie. as i was watching it, i thought:

- wow, the quality of this animation is great.

- the music is pretty damn good.

- i’m surprised that this is a car commercial and that toyota (the client) would go for something like this.

but it’s asia and animation is more accepted and they take more risks in the commercials for the local market.

so today, i’m watching tv and the same commercial came on. it was during a ‘friends’ rerun (don’t giggle) so the timeslot is a good one. i was shocked because i thought this was an asian market commercial. then i thought ‘cool’ because it’s not your typical car commercial (have you seen the other commercials for the ‘toyota matrix’, the ones where it’s being chased and no one can identify what the car is? what the hell kind of advertising is that, where even toyota can’t describe the car?).

the other reason i like this commercial is because the actor/driver in it appears to be asian. sure it’s only for 40 frames but still… that’s cool.

anyways, i just googled the commercial and found out the work was done in toronto and discovered there’s even an article about the making of this nice commercial. and… they even put the music up on their site as an mp3. very cool.

check it out, there’s even some clips of ‘previs’ (pre-visualization) elements for you to look at. i don’t think you should buy the car though.
