help for the wandering googler

i notice i get a ton of referrals from google. so for a little bit of usability i’ve added Eliot Landrum’s MT-RefSearch which displays, to people who arrive here via google, a message and some suggested links based on their search terms. it seems to work most of the time.

i hooked it into my 404 page. to see an example click here, then click on the link that says “vent: 24.09.01 slow week but there’s always robots” and watch the magic.

there still seems to be some kinks in it as it doesn’t always seem to work but when it does, it’s helpful.

i haven’t come across any problems.. it won’t show results when google pulls references from different entries, but other than that it seems to work pretty well for me. do you have any specific situations?

eliot, when you say it won’t show results when google pulls references from different entries, what does that mean? i’m so confused.

well, if you have a google reference for “plant paper” and you had one entry on “plant” and another on “paper” .. MT-RefSearch will only look for *entries* that contain BOTH “plant” and “paper”. since google searches whole pages, there may be some references that have no matching entries. man.. i hope i didn’t make you more confused.
